Sometimes it is as simple as pausing on a walk and giving your dog a few minutes to watch the world go by. Sitting on a bench, taking a moment on a rock or tree stump, or stopping at the edge of a quiet green space all count.
The aim is to allow your dog time to observe, process, and bring their energy levels down without pressure to move on or interact.
You can reward calm behaviour if it helps, especially when your dog notices a trigger and remains settled. Rewards should support the calm, not interrupt it. Other times, simply allowing your dog to watch and breathe is enough.
